Looper, written and directed by Rian Johnson, stars Bruce Willis,
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Noah Segan, Piper Perabo,
and Jeff Daniels.
This movie was very well done and it shows why it
is Certified Fresh. Here's the part I do not get. The movie is set in
2044 and yet cars still drive on the road. I have a bone to pick with that part of the film: Do we not have flying cars
at that point?
I will say that the time travel aspect was an interesting twist to the
film because we see what happens to the older version of the character
as the younger version of the character does something--especially for characters played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Dano.
This whole alternate history idea in the film is an interesting idea to tackle, especially in science fiction. The last time we saw something like this, I believe, was in Timeline, but that turned into more of a period piece with time traveling back into the past
Like Inception,
there are still fresh ideas in the realm of science fiction that are
out there. You just have to find the right writer, director, and talent
to make the film. Studios can only rehash the same Phillip K. Dick
stories into movies so many times.
It's interesting how we meet
the younger version of the Rainmaker and that one of the potentials was
the son of a "whore" (their words, not mine) that Joe was sleeping with.
I love a good science fiction film and this is one of them.
